Inspired Notes: Routine and Rebellion

Occasionally, I feel called to share inspired notes with my email community.

Call them downloads, channeled messages, or intuitive hits—the wisdom I receive in these instances feels like it comes from outside of me. And for that reason, I get the sense that it doesn’t belong to me; it wants to be shared.

This one is about my recent reflections regarding routine and rebellion* inspired by an impromptu trip I took + an excerpt from my personal journal…

*How about that alliteration?!


Two weeks ago, I took a spontaneous trip to the beach. I booked the Airbnb a day before I was supposed to arrive, without knowing how I’d get there…

All I knew was that I needed to be in nature.

On a whim, I threw my plan of going to Mexico City (booked months in advance) out the window and followed the subtle urge telling me to go to the beach instead.

I had planned to treat my time at the coast like a solo retreat—meditating twice a day, practicing yoga, spending time alone… but once I was there, none of that felt right.

My mind thought it knew what I needed, but my body knew better.

Again, I threw out my plans and followed the subtle cues, moment by moment. I lived fully in the present moment, outside of my usual routines and responsibilities.

This led me to the most incredible vacation I have ever experienced. It was full of deep rest and relaxation, as well as adventure and enjoyment. It was healing, fulfilling, and liberating. It was medicine.

As much as I enjoyed my time at the beach, I was ready to return home when the trip came to an end.

I felt grateful to return to my routine. Reflecting in my journal, I realized…

Life is a balance of routine and rebellion.

The world is cyclical, repeatable. The sun rises and sets each day. The moon waxes and wanes every month. We’re constantly moving through the seasons of a year.

Routine can be deeply comforting. It can be supportive, reliable, and grounding. Yet it can also constrict us—we can fall into unconscious habits, monotony, numbness.

Rebellion is necessary to shake us awake from time to time. It helps shift our perspective and unleash creativity. It can lead us to our evolution.

Routine honors the physical bodies we inhabit. Rebellion honors our soul. Life is about finding the balance between the two.

My spontaneous beach trip helped me to deepen the trust I have in my body’s signals—a quiet form of communication that connects me more with my soul.

This wisdom guides us, whether it’s towards committing ourselves to a routine, or rebelling against what’s established to awaken something new ♡
